After the cutoff list was released, I was eligible for admission to IIT Delhi. Just a few days after selecting IIT Delhi as my Master's college, I received an offer letter from IIT Delhi with all the further instructions. I just needed to fill out registration with registration fees, and after that, I needed to go to IIT for the other document verification process. Admissions were supposed to happen from 18th July to 20th July. So I left home for Delhi with all my stuff on 15th July.
During graduation, I lived in a rented apartment with 6 of my friends, out of whom 2 were my classmates Anivesh and Anupam, one in the same year as I was. Still, from a different department, Jatin and the other three were Jatin's junior Anshuman, Ankit, Amit. Four of us (Me, Jatin, Anivesh, Anupam) completed our graduation, so we left Delhi, but the rest three still lived in Delhi as this was their last year of graduation. So I asked Anshuman to stay with him for few days till my admission is final.
On the 15th, I reached Delhi at Anshuman's apartment. The next day I needed to go to my college form where I did my graduation to receive my provisional certificates. So on the 16th I got the certificates from college and waited for 18th July. I asked Amit to come with me on 18th July for the admission process. When we reached there, we were amazed to see the significant and beautiful campus of IIT Delhi. There were many trees, fresh air was blowing, and you could feel calm, which is rare to observe in a busy city like Delhi.
I thought that today was the admission day and I will be allotted a hostel after the admission process, but I was about to get hit hard on my face. After wandering for some time on campus and visiting a few help desks, I realized that today is the day for the allotment of the hostel and not the admission day. After asking few students on campus and going to respective hostels, they told me that they received emails about their hostels with all joining information. But when I looked at my emails, I didn't have any mail regarding the hostel. After that, I reread the registration form that I filled back at home, and then I realized that I had made a mistake. In the form, I had chosen to be a day scholar and don't need a hostel.
I got tensed and worried at the same time because if I didn't get a hostel, where was I supposed to live. Amit comforted me and was laughing a bit also on my stupidity. I also laughed but was very worried from inside. We got back to Anshuman's apartment and told him everything. He told me to relax and that everything is going to be okay. The next day was the orientation day I purposely missed cause I was upset about the stupid mistake I made.
